CogMath Tutoring

CogMath aims to help university students strengthen not only their mathematical skills, but their mindset towards math. I am a computer science student who has taken these university courses and wants to help students transform their mindset positively towards their own capabilities.

Meet the Instructor

Hi, I’m Nayana

As a woman in computer science, I understand how isolating rigorous quantitative courses can feel, especially for students who may already feel uncertain about whether they belong in computer science.

During my time at Rutgers University, I encountered a variety of students who felt the same. From speaking with other women to first-generation, and nontraditional students in my classes, I empathized with their struggles. I wanted to further support these students on a deeper, more personal level, which led me to start CogMath, a tutoring startup, in my junior year at Rutgers University.

Why Choose Me?

I have tutored university students in Calculus II through study groups and recitation classes as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for two years, building connections with my students. I guided them through problem-solving exercises, helped students work through difficult concepts, and supported them in developing stronger confidence in their own abilities.

I later expanded this work by tutoring students in Calculus II, Discrete Math/Discrete Structures, and other university courses through the Wyzant tutoring platform. My goal was to help students understand not only the course material itself, but the technique and thought process behind solving problems. Through this experience, I saw how deeply these courses can shape a student’s perspective on themselves.

I have moved off Wyzant due to limitations with its scheduling and messaging services and look forward to continuing to guide students in quantitative subjects, helping them feel more capable, prepared, and supported in their academic journeys.

Explore the range of tutoring I offer to help you move forward with confidence in university courses.

  • Having taken Calculus I and II in university and taught it as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, I understand where students often get stuck.

  • I have experienced both Discrete Structures/Mathematics I and II in university, and I know that proof-based material can feel unfamiliar and intimidating at first.

  • For other quantitative courses, beyond Calculus and Discrete Math, I tailor support to the structure and demands of your specific class.
